South Korea beat Bahrain 2-1 at the end of the overtime while Qatar, the host country of the 2022 World Cup, won 1-0 against Iraq. Both teams will be opposed in the next round.

Bassam Al-Rawi, whose father is a former Iraqi international, offered Qatar the qualification for the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup by scoring a stunning free kick (62nd minute) against Iraq (1-0).

Iraq, the 2007 champions, gave it all but failed to seize any good opportunity. It is the first time since 1972 that Iraq leaves the tournament before the quarter-finals.

The quarterfinals will start Thursday with China against Iran and Vietnam against Japan. On Friday, we will see the clash between Qatar and South Korea and the duel between the United Arab Emirates and the defending champion, Australia.
