Participants of the Russia-Africa Media Forum are set to meet Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as the gathering gets underway in Moscow.
Organized by RT in cooperation with the Sputnik and TASS news agencies, the event comes ahead of the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for October 28-29 in the Russian capital.
The meeting with Zakharova is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, at 11 am Moscow time.
The four-day forum opened on Monday, bringing together more than 200 participants from 46 African countries, alongside Russian media executives, journalists, and experts. Among the attendees are African Broadcasting Union Director General Gregoire Ndjaka and Central African Republic Communications and Media Minister Evariste Ngamana.
Discussions will focus on media cooperation, combating disinformation, and the role of journalism in shaping Africa’s image internationally. The program also includes joint broadcasts with Russian media outlets and the signing of cooperation agreements.
Zakharova previously announced that TASS would host a panel discussion on the role of media resources in combating disinformation and promoting a positive image of Russia and Africa.
The forum coincides with preparations for the third Russia-Africa Summit, where Russian President Vladimir Putin and Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye, the current chair of the African Union, are scheduled to co-chair the plenary session on October 29.
The Russian side will be represented by RT first deputy editor-in-chief Elizaveta Brodskaya, Rossiya Segodnya director general Dmitry Kiselyov, and TASS director general Andrey Kondrashov.
The Russian Foreign Ministry will also organize two sessions focusing on digital opportunities and challenges, as well as the role of AI in developing cooperation between Russia and Africa, according to Zakharova.
Sessions hosted by RT, Rossiya Segodnya, and TASS are scheduled for October 26-27 at the Russia National Center, followed by a plenary discussion involving senior media executives and regulators at Gostiny Dvor on October 28.
The program also includes an RT session on October 29 featuring descendants of prominent African leaders highlighted in the broadcaster’s African Legacy project. Participants are also expected to hold joint broadcasts with Russian media outlets and sign cooperation agreements.
