'The View' co-host demands 25th Amendment be used against Trump, suggests Cabinet could do it after midterms

"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin raised using the 25th Amendment against President on Tuesday, as the ABC talk show returned from its summer break.

"My question is when do we really start, in earnest — and I mean this honestly — considering the 25th Amendment," Hostin said.

"I think when the Republicans lose the House, and they lose the Senate, theyre going to want to have some control over this person, this person that is in the office, and JD Vance would then be that replacement and I wonder if the Cabinet then looks at each other and says, OK, weve got to take control of this, 25th Amendment," she added.

The 25th Amendment to the Constitution empowers a presidents Cabinet to remove him from office if he is unable to do the job.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back, saying she didn't think Trump's Cabinet would ever take such action. 

"I think if they didnt do it after January 6, in that period before he left office [in 2021], its never going to happen," she said.

The White House did not immediately return request for comment.

Co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar have also called for the use of the 25th Amendment against Trump since he returned to office last year.

While criticizing Trump's efforts to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine in September 2025, , "He had an opportunity to do so much more than he offered them, and they dont consider him to be serious anymore, and Im worried. What is the amendment, the 20-"

The co-hosts took their guesses at which amendment Goldberg was referencing, making multiple attempts before Hostin eventually informed them that it was the 25th Amendment.

"They questioned Bidens competence," Goldberg said at the time. "If Biden had acted like this, I would have said take him and sit him down somewhere, but this was not — this was not presidential, and this was not helpful."

After beneath portraits of his predecessors, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, on the new White House Presidential Walk of Fame in December 2025, Behar asked when the Cabinet would push to remove the president.

"When are they going to invoke the 25th Amendment? Does he have to run naked into the White House or what? What is that amendment for if not for this?" drawing laughter from the audience.

"The View" seeking public support in June amid a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation into the liberal talk show as the agency cracks down on equal time for political candidates after Texas Democratic Senate candidate  joined the co-hosts for an interview.

ABCs campaign features a petition to declare that "The View" qualifies as a bona fide news interview program. A commercial debuted in June during the program declared, "The View has welcomed your favorite guests for nearly 30 years. Now the FCC wants to control who is allowed to appear on the show. Tell the FCC to let the viewers decide."
